ABD Engineering & Design worked with BSA LifeStructures on the Marion Health East Innovation and Medical Campus in Gas City, IN. The four-story, standalone hospital provides access to healthcare at the intersection of Indiana 22 and Interstate 69 where there had not been a hospital for over 100 miles. The facility includes an emergency department, urgent care, surgical suites, family practice, outpatient clinics, and 13 beds for inpatient acute care.
ABD’s acoustical consulting services followed FGI guidelines to provide comprehensive recommendations for the new hospital including exterior and interior noise isolation, room acoustics, and mechanical systems noise control. We started with exterior noise and vibration measurements to quantify existing noise and ground-borne vibration levels from the traffic on the nearby highways. Vibration data was provided for the structural engineer to assist in planning for the MRI and other imaging suites, while ABD staff used exterior noise data to collaborate with the architect on the specific exterior wall and window assemblies. For the interior, analysis of each space type was performed to provide detailed acoustical recommendations with the goal of achieving a quieter, more comfortable healthcare environment.
