The Foundry

Adaptive Re-use Office Space

This adaptive re-use by Eckert Wordell took a historic iron foundry and steel fabrication facility and re-purposed it as “Kalamazoo’s first Living Office® workspace designed to help you reimagine how — and where — you work, create and thrive.”

ABD provided complete acoustical consulting services that included:

  • Room Acoustics to address the general acoustical comfort in the spaces
  • Open-Office Speech Privacy to make it easier to concentrate in what are typically difficult spaces
  • Noise Isolation – allowing for adjacent spaces to operate simultaneously in greater privacy and without interruption from next-door noises
  • Mechanical Noise Control – managing the structure-borne noise and vibration and airborne sound from HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems

The variety of spaces (meeting and events, dining, open offices, closed offices) was a particular challenge.
