Kinross Recreation Center

The acoustical challenge of the Kinross Building on the campus of UCLA was to provide speech privacy in an open office environment. Open offices spaces tend to encourage worker collaboration, but can be problematic when speech privacy is a concern. At ABD Engineering and Design, our professional engineers took precise sound measurements to analyze the acoustical problems throughout the facility, and we developed a plan for meeting the needs of the space. Since each project is unique, we knew a one-solution-fits-all approach would never work. Our report included a customized plan to absorb, block, and cover the unwanted sound. Our recommendations provided solutions to realize the acoustical goals of the facility without compromising the aesthetic appeal.
